If
you're looking for a great way to workout, some social recreation time, or a
place to prepare yourself for outdoor rock climbing, The Boiler Room has a lot
to offer
Indoor wall climbing is a highly social recreational and fitness activity that gives you a chance to challenge yourself in many different ways. Physical strength plays a part -- but climbing also improves your flexibility and helps you hone your strategy and problem solving skills. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is included free of charge. We also provide in-depth introductory and technique lessons, as well as occasional climbing courses. Hang out with us and become part of a vibrant climbing community!
(Appointment recommended for groups of 4 or more. Appointment required for groups of 8 or more.)
We'll teach climbers age 14 or older how to manage the safety ropes (called belaying), how to fit a harness, and how to tie the rope to it. The entire lesson takes about 30-45 minutes, but the climbers are usually on the wall within 15-20 minutes. The main difference between this and the Introductory Lesson is that we are not teaching climbing technique, and you do not have a private instructor dedicated to your group. New belayers will be allowed to belay unsupervised only after they have mastered safe technique. There is no charge for basic belay training, except for normal admission and equipment rental fees. There is no charge for adults who are learning to belay for children, but are not climbing themselves.
**PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: The safety lesson requires your undivided attention! Due to demands on staff time, we cannot provide child sitting services while you are in your lesson (it usually takes 15-20 minutes before the climbers get on the wall). If you are coming with young children (under the age of 7), please bring an extra person to supervise them while you concentrate on learning our safety procedures. Ideally, there should be one adult belayer and one adult supervisor for every 4 children age 7 or younger. There is no extra admission fee for those who are not climbing. The gym is not an appropriate place for infants or toddlers.
(Reservations required at least 48 hours in advance)
Two hour private lessons are the best way to get started or to improve your technique. If it's your first visit to the gym, we'll include equipment rentals (harness, climbing shoes and chalk bag) free of charge. Otherwise, equipment rentals are available with your lesson at 1/2 of the regular price. Admission is included with the cost of the lesson so you can stay and climb as long as you like after your lesson is done. Choose between our private Introduction to Climbing Lesson or our Technique Lesson:
Learn to climb properly from the start and avoid developing bad habits that are hard to break later! Lesson includes: footwork, balance & weight shifting, hold and climbing styles, bouldering, top-roping and loads of technique. Those 14 and older will also learn to belay.
This is the one to take if you know the basics and you've been climbing for a while. If you feel you've hit 'the plateau', spend a couple of hours with one of our instructors. They'll help you improve your technique, flexibility and strength and they'll give you drills and tips you can work on by yourself later.
